An intra-oral camera is a small, pen-shaped device that takes close-up photos and video of the inside of your mouth. The image shows up on a screen in the room — you can see it too.
Why it matters
It changes the dynamic of a dental appointment. Instead of being told “you have a crack on that molar,” you can see it. Patients who see their own dental issues tend to understand their treatment options better and feel more confident about decisions.
For us, the camera helps spot things that are easy to miss with the naked eye — early-stage cracks, decay in hard-to-see spots, early gum inflammation.
When we use it
Intra-oral cameras are part of routine exams, not a separate procedure. We may use them:
- During a dental cleaning and exam to document current conditions
- When evaluating a tooth for a crown or filling
- To check healing after a procedure
- When patients have a concern they want us to look at more closely
The camera is comfortable, takes seconds to use, and works for patients of all ages.
